Characteristics

Mi Jong Lo Han (迷踪羅漢) contains a wide variety of forms (60+), drills and techniques. The core material remains the primary Lo Han Men (羅漢門) hand, weapon and two-person forms. These forms contain and provide the stylistic distinctiveness, backbone, tactical theory and techniques of the art.

Mi Jong Lo Han is characterized by its high mobility and wide array of strikes, kicks, footwork, take-downs and classical weapons use. Movements are overtly employed through seemingly long range approaches and the dissonant use of timing, space, speed and power. These movements may appear superficially fragile and elemental but unfold into a variety of sophisticated yet practical techniques. A doctrine of power generation through smooth, supple flowing action culminates in explosive and fast focused strikes that maximize energy efficiency. Deceptive and highly agile footwork along with confusing angles of attack and defense allows for multiple target engagement while minimizing exposure.

Our branch of MJLH is particularly pragmatic and precise, emphasizing traditionally refined and austere efficiency while eschewing dramatic movements at the expense of practicality. Our martial legacy also includes the styles of Tao Chia Liang Yi (道家兩儀門, Dao Gar), Tai Chi Tang Lang (太極螳螂, Tai Chi Praying Mantis) and Yang Shih Tai Chi Chuan (楊氏太極拳, Yang-style Tai Chi). These styles are distinctive in their own right, but they also help provide a comprehensive understanding of traditional Chinese martial art theory and practice. Tao Chia Liang Yi and Tai Chi Tang Lang provide important supplemental, as well as auxiliary, aspects to our lineage of Mi Jong Lo Han.

Yang-Style Tai Chi Chuan, as an “internal” style, is taught as a completely separate set of classes.
