Classes are 50 minutes in duration and have been divided into 3 main types: Group, Forms & Sparring.
Some classes (e.g. Forms, Sparring) have prerequisite requirements.
- Beginners start out attending Group classes only.
- When the student has passed the appropriate prerequisites, additional classes become available.
- Approval must be obtained from Sifu or assistant instructor prior to starting these classes.
- NOTE: Unless otherwise authorized by Sifu or assistant instructor, students must attend the Group class prior to attending subsequent classes that day.
Group Class
Fundamental and advanced conditioning class contain warm-up, stretching, whole body exercises and drills (striking and kicking drill), as well as basic self-defense work.
Later stage classes will contain more advanced drills, exercises and self defense applications. Chin Na (joint locking techniques), take-downs and technique sparring are all integral to this class.
Forms Class
Forms teach the basic tenets of a style through a series of prearranged, connected movements and techniques. Forms classes are open to students once they have learned all the basic drills and techniques.
There are single-person forms and two-person forms, as well as traditional Chinese weapon forms. In this class students will learn aspects of MJLH power generation and movement through coordinated foot work, striking, kicking, and weapon use. Each form builds upon previous forms to give a thorough understanding of the style. Forms are fundamental to advancing in the MJLH lineage.
Sparring Class
There are different types of sparring that are utilized but in general sparring classes train in the spontaneous application of kicks, strikes, and techniques, as well as some weapons use. These classes are open upon instructor approval for students who have learned the basic striking and kicking drills, and demonstrated aspects of self-control.
